How do you determine that a car is a lemon?

ok i bought my car 09/05 from a dealership. its a 1998 pontiac grand prix gt and it was $6,200. well since then i've had to put over $3,500 in repairs to it.

-egr valve

-belts

-window motors (both stopped working)

-new wiper motor/relay (also stopped working)

-mass air flow sensor

-new weather stripping stuff by wipers

-struts

-tires

-brakes

-air conditioning

-oil changes, radiator flushs, normal stuff...

also i still have to get the fans fixed b/c whenever i turn my heat on they squeal and its annoying, and when my heats on it smells horrible.

no one else i know has ever put that much $$ into a car in less than 2 years.

i bought it from a good dealership it's not like its from a buy here pay here.

also it had 70,00 mi. when i bought it.How do you determine that a car is a lemon?
the lemon law is that it has to have 5 MAJOR things go wrong with it within 1 year of purchase of a new car. You will have to have proof of this by dealer only repairs to your vehicle. The %26quot;small%26quot; repairs will be under new car warrantee. Since you bought a used car then you are screwed. The old saying of %26quot;caviot emptor%26quot; buyer beware. Just be sure to tell ALL of your friends and family not to buy anything from this dealer, as he probably knew the car was in this bad of condition. His mechanics will look over the vehicle when it was brought in then they will determine how much to fix to keep the car running long enough to resell it. If this a reputable dealer then he might refund some of your money since this car was in bad shape and he knew it.How do you determine that a car is a lemon?
Most of the time a lemon is determined from it having to go into the shop for the same problem 3 times within a certain amount of time, and the problem never being taken care of, but I think the lemon laws are different from state to state. How do you determine that a car is a lemon?
some you win some you lose. cut your losses and get rid of itHow do you determine that a car is a lemon?
It looks like no one did any maintenance on this car while they owned it. In other words, it is a well used car.

The previous owners just put gas in it and that was it....and drive it into the ground. %26quot;Could have been a rental.%26quot;

The dealership ain't about to put money into it if they can sell it. Silicone and turtle wax is enough.

All the things you mentioned are items that wear and would have to be replaced if you owned the car from day one. Except in your case you would have done it piece by piece...over the long haul.

It is a matter of inspecting the car before you buy it - even from a dealer. Used is used=it is up to you to determine %26quot;how used is it%26quot;.

There is no major part here like engine, transmission or rear end.How do you determine that a car is a lemon?
As stated before the LEMON law only applies to newly purchased vehicles, or vehicles that were relatively newly purchased (ie very late model.)

Most of the items you've named are wear items (tires, brakes, struts, etc) though some cars wear faster than others. The window motors are notoriously failure prone in GM vehicles (my brother's Camaro spent 5 minutes rolling up the windows.) Its odd that the MAF went out that soon, but its not unheard of.

If its running fine now I'd say keep driving it, but if it starts to give you problems considering selling it a purchasing something else. Some cars are just money pits. Consider purchasing a Japanese car on your next go round, you will still need to fix stuff but they tend to break with a few more miles on them than the others do.

Will my tires pass the roadworthy test?

i am getting a renewal roadworthy certificate. i think everything is fine, car runs really well and ive just changed oil filter and wiper blades. i heard somewhere that if u get a roadworthy no matter what state your tires and windscreen are in they will change them. even if your tires are brand new. is this true? my tires still have a fair bit of treat left in them, they are 3 years old and i dont drive it much, only to and from work. so whats the deal here? how much will a roadworthy cost anyways? in melbourne australia:)Will my tires pass the roadworthy test?
Not necessarily true, depends on the condition of your tires. %26quot;Fair bit of tread%26quot; is kind of vague, so I can't help you there. Any tires store can take a look at them for you. Will my tires pass the roadworthy test?
any tire store can tell or you can type into search box

take a penny and stick it in the center of the tread. If you can not see the rim you are ok.

5 quart oil change with conventional oil= $28.95

I've heard of guys that remove the front bumper and the entire headlight assembly to get a better bead on that badboy and get it out. It sounds scary but it's really not that bad. just try not to damage the paint job when you do it. Cover the nearby bodyparts with an old blanket or something.

How do I remove scratches in an automobile windshield?

This is a 1995 Nissan Sentra. The scratches have been caused by the windshield wipers. Apparently the previous owner neglected to change the blades periodically. How do I remove scratches in an automobile windshield?
I have some personal experience with this. The rubbing compound method won't work unless the scratches are VERY light, and even then you have to be careful, as too much rubbing wit h the abrasive rubbing compound will leave a hazy area on the glass (micro-scratches from the abrasives). You can go to your local auto glass shop and see if they can repair the wiper scratches, but even if they can (somewhat doubtful unless they're REALLY deep), the resin they use is not totally clear; you'll always be able to see the repair, even though it might make it look better short term. That kind of repair usually only works well on chips and stars.

Frankly, I'd eventually go with replacing it, because I honestly don't think you'll like the results otherwise. If it should get any further damage or develop a crack as a result of the scoring from the wiper scratches, your insurance will cover replacing it under %26quot;comprehensive%26quot; coverage. If you don't have that coverage, and can't afford a new windshield out of pocket, you can go to a salvage yard and obtain a good quality used one. Most auto glass places will install the used one for you for a modest fee (grudgingly, as they'd rather sell you a new one). Hope this info helped. How do I remove scratches in an automobile windshield?
Depending on the depth of the scratches. You could either buff them out with rubbing compound or wax.

Of you will have to use a epoxy to fill in if they are deep. I would suggest you hire someone that is trained in doing this if you are not familiar with the technique. You can make the windshield worse or cause it to need replacement.

If yes, forget the idea of doing it yourself and take it to a garage.

If no, remove the centre boss of the steering wheel, find a suitable socket spanner and remove the steering wheel.

Then remove the two halves of the steering column around the switches taking care not to lose the screws.

    Unplug the switch and replace.

Repeat the above in reverse to put everything back together.

It sounds like your wiper motor is burned out.

Have it checked first for a loose connection.

Call around to some junk yards and try to locate a replacement wiper motor. They are not that hard to replace. Some some bolts holding down the wiper motor and some linkage attachments, and a few wires that should have a quick release plug on them.

I have total confidence in you. Used wiper motors are probly around $30. Installing is just the reverse of taking it off. You will learn quickly. Mark connectors that you may need to remember with tape. A to A, B to B, etc.

Like everyone else has said, it sounds like a bad wiper motor. These are not very expensive. It may not be much more then the used one.The wipers on my 1994 Mercury Tracer won%26039;t work......????
Check to ensure the fuse did not blow. Your owners manual in the glove box should tell you the location of the fuse box as well as which fuse to check. Now u ask; how do I know if the fuse is bad. The fuses have a clear window that you can see the fuse element. If it is bad, you will see the element burnt in too; almost every time. Fuses are color coded so that you can easily replace with a like color. Some cars have a spare fuse or two at the fuse box.

I can get to the passenger side head light easy, the problem is that I have a power steering and wind shield wiper containers right next to the head light on the driver side. Another person told me the best way is to remove the whole head light to get to the bulb. which involves removing the bumper. Please help. How to change the driver side headlight in a 2000 Honda Civic?
the power steering reservoir should be just sitting in it's mount and you should be able to just pull it out of the mount and just enough out of the way to pull the rubber boot off the headlight assembly and you should be ready to change out your light bulb just be cure to remember how the original bulb was positioned in the headlight because you have to put it back in the same exact way. and whoever told you to pull the bumper off to change a fricken light bulb is an idiot! Honda isn't that stupid to make you take a bumper off to change a light bulb.

How to change a Bad Starter?

This morning my 2001 Ford Tauras starter went out. A couple of days ago it took 2-3 times to start for my husband. Then this morning it just wouldn't start at all. The radio works, windshield wipers, etc. so we don't think it's the battery. Just wondering if anyone knows if this is an easy fix to do yourself and what the best options are of buying a new starter. Thank you!How to change a Bad Starter?
If the starter turns the engine over, it's not bad. If not, It could be the battery or the charging system. Make sure your battery terminal connections are clean. How to change a Bad Starter?
if your asking the question you should not be changing the starter yourself get a mechanicHow to change a Bad Starter?
I would begin by taking it to a 12 step meeting.

OK, really. You can get a book from the auto parts store for your year and make and model of car for only $20. It will have step by step instructions for your car. While the operation is fairly straight forward, there are some cars that just want to be different, and difficult. Having the exact instructions for your car is a must. After removing the starter, take it to the auto parts store and have them check it first, before replacing the whole thing. It may just be the solonoid (Fancy word for a big relay on the side of the starter) and not the starter motor itself. That could save you as much as $195 by only replacing the damaged part, and not the whole thing. How to change a Bad Starter?
Measure the battery voltage during start. If it drops significantly (under 6 volts), it's a bad battery or a bad alternator (or bad wiring to the alternator).

If it is a bad starter, you disconnect the ground lead of the battery (to keep from welding yourself to the car). then disconnect the wires on the starter, remove the starter (a few bolts, but they're tough to get started), install the new starter, replace the wires, and replace the battery wire. 5 minutes if you know what you're doing, maybe 20 if you don't.

Careful - the starter is kind of heavy. Not something you can't hold in one hand, but it can break bones if it falls on your hand.

Take a look in your owners manual and find the location of your fuse panel, usually under the dash concealed by a small flip door. The fuse locations are normally numbered or stamped. The fuses have there amp (amperage) stamped on them. You might find wiper fuse eg. 20 amp. Check if the middle of the fuse is intact, if burnt or in doubt replace with a fuse of same amp. If the fuse blows again then there is a problem in the electrics. If it's not still in warranty and your not confident take it to the repairer.

You need a new switch. The older Fords that have them on the dash with just a dial can be removed by a large nut in behind. Cheap. Never said the year....

ON a lot of the pre 1999 vehicles, it requires a new connector if you put on a Ford motor and if wrong wired ..problems.. Also if the ground isn't correct (plus you need to check the wiring from the switch to the motor)

On post 1999 MY, the wipers are controlled by a GEM module behind the fuse box, and if it screws up, can casue problems.. but usually the wiper motor cover or the wiper switch inside is the problem...

Take it to a mechanic shop and let them diagnose it for sure (besides the gem module can only be diagnosed by a mechanic shop level scan tool, not the garden varierty at the zone or walmart)

The wiper mechanism itself appears to be working fine.

There is a module that controls the wipers and where they land. If this goes bad, then what you are describing is common.

Should I pay this much for my transmission or go somewhere else?

Hi, My name is Aaron. I have a 1994 Buick Regal with just about 73,000 miles on it. I bought it from an older couple for $3,200. I have owned it for about a year now and hasn't had any major problems.

Last 2 months ago, I just put a brand new cooling system, water pump, oil change, and windshield wiper blades for about $350. I go to a shop called %26quot;Jiffy Oil%26quot; which they know my car backwards and forwards and also give me discounts (They know my mom).

Anyways, my car started making noise so I took it to them. They knew it was my transmission, but have no skills into repairing it. They told me to go down to the transmission place next to Dairy Queen and tell them Jiffy Oil sent you and it was Mark. I said Ok and took my car down there.

The guy there at the transmissions place got in my car listened to the noise and opened the hood. He showed me exactly what the problem was. It had chunks of metal everywhere..I had no idea how it happened. He said it would run me about $1,100 to repair it as if it were brand new and would give me 12 months free repair with insurance as well. I told him I'd think about it and take my car some other places first. I went to three other places I knew. The first one said $1,600 and would be $200 extra for insurance for only 6 months. The second one said $6,800. They told me it was totally damaged, never seen anything like it before. And the third one said $9,200..they said pretty much the same thing as the second. Both did not include insurance. My dad said that is outrageous for such prices and doesn't know what to do either. My cousin, which is a Diesel/Automotive Machanic, said that the first one was a good deal and I should go with it, because my car would only sell for $500 if I wanted to sell it. Please help! $1,000 is,nt bad for all that work. i believe i would go with that. the reason the chunks were there was they never kept the fluid and filter changed.Should I pay this much for my transmission or go somewhere else?
I would go with $1100. Why not just get a rebuilt one and exchange it. Look into that instead of going for repairs.Should I pay this much for my transmission or go somewhere else?
$1,100 is definitely a good price. Especially with the economy the way it is you're lucky to find anyone that will fix the car for under $2000. It depends on how much you love your car though if you feel you'd rather sell it then do it.

You should be using Bosch blades!! You should also apply the rain-x about 3 more times. You are stuck between worlds. EIther the rain-x wasn't applied correctly, or you go to automated car washes where they spray things down with wax. You can treat your existing blades with a coating of graphite to return the slick to the wiper. Or, you can remove the rain-x with ammonia. If the rain-x is applied the right way, you shouldn't have this problem. Airplanes use it!How to remove rain-x?

With the wiper %26quot;parked%26quot; just remove the wiper arm from its pivot and bolt it back wherever you want it to be.

NOTE: There is a limited area the wiper can be in: you don't want it going off the glass!

Addition: If you can't do it moving the arm position, you might be able to acheve that by repositioning the crank on the wiper motor itself.

How much will it cost to get a wiper motor changed?

My 2000 Nissan Micra needs a new front wiper motor. The slow speed has slowed down to 8 seconds between wipes, and the fast speed is only as fast as the slow speed used to be. I'm afraid it needs a new (front) wiper motor.

How much do they cost, and how much can I expect it to cost to get one fitted? Could I save a bit by buying a motor on the internet and then asking for someone to fit it?

    I'm in Scotland in a semi-rural area.

Thanks --How much will it cost to get a wiper motor changed?
sounds more like the switch to the motor than the actual motor. either way you can save a butt load of cash by buying used from a junk yard, and at a junk or scrap yard you can see the part your buying before asking someone to ship it to you (you buy a nissan part but find a honda in the box, not good)How much will it cost to get a wiper motor changed?
Have the wiper checked out first. It may also be the wiper linkage that is seizing up on you and this is slowing the wipers down.

My window wipers park in the middle of the window screen when they stop, how can i get them to stop at bottom?

i have recently changed the linkage arms to my wipers, i have set them to several different positions but they still keep stopping in the centre of the window screen, does anyone know how to get them to sit at the bottom of the window screen. My window wipers park in the middle of the window screen when they stop, how can i get them to stop at bottom?
Dear god how you people love splashing the cash about to cure such a simple problem.First method there is a cap about 2.5 ins in diameter on top of the wiper motor gearbox and it will have a wire connected to it,loosen the screws on the tin plate cover and by turning the cap round this sets the position that the blades park.Second method,if you have a different type of wiper motor do this.with the blades parked on the centre of the screen slide the arms off and then put them on again at the parking position you want,it really is that simpleMy window wipers park in the middle of the window screen when they stop, how can i get them to stop at bottom?
If they stop in a certain position rather than simply stop as soon as you switch them off, it's not the motor. The motor will carry on turning until some pre-determined point at which it switches off, if it does this and the wipers are in the middle of the screen then you'll just need to experiment a bit more with the linkage. Might be worth checking it's all been assembled correctly too.

If the wipers just stop as soon as you turn the switch off, then I'd suspect the motor. My window wipers park in the middle of the window screen when they stop, how can i get them to stop at bottom?
You probably need to replace the motor itself. There is a parking switch inside the motor that shuts power when the wipers are parked. You can sometimes repair the parking switch by disassembling the motors gearbox but most motors are so inexpensive it's not worth the trouble to repair it.My window wipers park in the middle of the window screen when they stop, how can i get them to stop at bottom?
Howard L is right. Replace the wiper motor. The parking switch cam or the parking switch plunger in the wiper drive gear assembly is worn or the parking switch on the wiper drive gear assembly is defective. The quick and easy fix is to replace the wiper motor assembly. My window wipers park in the middle of the window screen when they stop, how can i get them to stop at bottom?
You have fitted the link arm to the motor spindle 180 degrees out.Disconnect it ,turn the wipers on then off and the motor will self park, put the wipers at the bottom of the screen and fasten the link arm back onto the motor spindleMy window wipers park in the middle of the window screen when they stop, how can i get them to stop at bottom?

My hubby got a cougar a couple of years ago. for as long as I can remember there has been a yellow tool looking light showing on the ceiling. If ya have a cougar you would know what I'm talking about. What does the light mean? We've gotten the car tuned up but it hasn't gone away. Also we don't know how to turn on the back windshield wiper or change the spark plugs. There are also theses buttons that remains useless on the dash. I heard you can program them but how? That is a service reminder light. It comes on at preset intervals to remind you that service is needed, like oil changes. It has to be reset after service is performed. How to reset the light, and your other questions are answered in the Owners Guide and the Maintenance Guide. You can download a free copy off one of the Ford sites like www.genuineservice.com. How do I change my 89 Ford f150 Windshield wiper motor?

My husband seems to think that you have to mess with the dash but i wouldnt figure you would have to. But can some one please at least send me to a sight with an answer? Its a 2 plug motor. How do I change my 89 Ford f150 Windshield wiper motor?
No....you open the hood, and take off the front upper grill located directly in front of the hood. There is a series of 6-8 bolts/screws there. Once removed, you will have access to the motor, and its just take it off, and put it on. Dont try and do this with the upper grill on.....I did, and bent the panel and chipped the paint. You dont have to mess with the dash at all. If you want a walk throug, let me know, I have done it a couple of times.....

How often do the windshield wipers need to be changed?

If you use cheap aftermarket or factory replacement blades (or inserts), then expect to replace them about once a year when they start leaving streaks.

However, if you spend a little more money and buy some silicone blades, they will last MUCH longer than standard rubber blades. Most silicone wiper blades have a 5-year warranty on them, and cost about $20 per blade or less. The cost is about the same or less than OE blades from the dealer, and about the same as 3 years worth of buying aftermarket blades.

I have a set on my vehicle that have been there for over 6 years and still work just like brand new. I have to admit I was skeptical when I bought them, but 6 years later it was well worth the money I paid for them.

I personally replace them around the end of fall, when it starts raining more often, every year, but I live in a area that is hot and dry through all of the spring through mid to late fall. If you live in area that has a long period of hot, I'd replace them before it starts becoming more wet. If you live somewhere where it's not as hot, or rains more often, I'd be replacing them whenever they start to do an inadequate job. Typically, the adverage Wal-Mart blades work just as good as anything else, I reccomend either the Rain-X or the Michelin blades, they seem to work the best, and last a bit longer

well I own 3 pennzoil quick lubes and with exception with the car wash I can tell you exactly what you would have paid. Oil change with any oil except synthetic $30.95. Tire rotation $14.95. Wiper blades (we use Rain-X brand or for more we have Bosch Icons) $19.99 for the pair. $65.89+$3.96tax= $69.85 total. Yes I would say you paid way too much since I know that other than the dealer I am the most expensive quick lube in my town. How much should it cost to have an oil change, tire rotation, and new wiper blades for a 2004 6-cyl. Subaru?
Oil change no more than $30 maybe up to $50 if it was synthetic, tire rotation is $20 pretty much anywhere you go, wiper blades no more than $10 each, so ya you might have gotten ripped off a little, nothing to write home about.

Also was it a good car wash with a wax job? if so then thats a fair trade off for me, the auto car wash places around here cost $20 for the full ride. How much should it cost to have an oil change, tire rotation, and new wiper blades for a 2004 6-cyl. Subaru?
Even most dealers will charge $20-25 for oil, $10-15 for rotation and $20 for wipers installed. I think the car wash cost you about $60. I'd do more than a little complaining if I were you.

The GM dealer I go to is $20 for oil change %26amp; $10 for rotation.

Please help me with my Citroen C8!?

I Have a Citroen C8 2003. I bought it 18 months ago, quite impulsively because we had another baby on the way and the price was reasonable. The guy who sold it me will have nothing more to do with it.

Since then we have had no end of trouble with it. My BIGGEST and most worrying problem is that the engine has started to jerk very randomly, especially when in 1st/2nd gear. If you don't accelerate hard enough the car will stall at traffic lights, junctions...whenever it feels like it! As a result, I feel like I am constantly riding the clutch.

It has good days and bad days...sometimes in the morning it can be fine and then by the evening it's shot at or vice versa. There is no indication as to when or why it plays up. Sometimes it can go a few weeks running fine. It is SOOOOOO stressful!

You are wondering why I have not taken it to the Citroen garage . I have. They ran a diagnostic which indicated that it was air flow/fuel injection problem(?). They ordered a new part, charged me a fortune and told me that it was fixed. It was for two months. My mechanic seems to think that the diagnosic test results are unreliable especially with the car being intelligent and that It is unlikely that it was fixed appropriately...more that the car was having a good run for a few weeks...which does happen.

When I go back to them this week, I want to be armed with a little information. Does anyone know why it does this? How it needs to be fixed?

    My more minor problems are:

(This is just so you can appreciate what an utter fool I was to buy the car in the first place. My question is more about the problem above)

    1. The gearbox is tricky...you need two hands to put it in reverse.

    2. All the panels keep coming away.. even the handle casing on the front door has fallen off.

    3. It is slow to accelerate

    4. One of the sliding electric door is broken. It beeps to indicate that it 'knows to open' but doesn't.

    5. The rear window wiper only clears half the window, even when we changed the wiper. Please help me with my Citroen C8!?
I would write, in great detail, to Citroen UK %26amp; ask if they're prepared to help in any way. You never know. It's obvious that this car was sold after it's 3 year warranty had run out %26amp; these 'niggles' were never sorted.

Citroens are an odd machine, and a lot of garages either know very little, or don't want to touch them. Google local independent Citroen specialists. Well worth it. I had a couple of Citroens %26amp; had the same response from various garages, mechanics, etc; found a local chap (about 20 miles away) who was fantastic.

    The C8 shares most parts with the Fiat Ulysse %26amp; Peugeot 807: There's a great website for problems;

    http://www.eurovan2.com/

I will warn you that gearbox problems are usually terminal.

    This is one person's list of issues after 18 months with their C8;

    1. Problem with both sliding doors, not opening/closing properly

    2. Power steering failure.

    3. Software problem - sliding doors opening on won accord, not

    opening at

all. Boot not opening. At one point the car completely 'died' -

    would not

    even start.

    4. Auto windscreen wipers stopped working.

    5. Blinds on rear sliding doors broke

    6. Noise from under bonnet which two dealers could not identify

    7. Sunroof blind broke

    8. Rear brake pads went. Upon inspection it was discovered that the

callipers were faulty and had caused the pads to wear prematurely

    9. All the tyres needed replacing at 18,000 miles

10.Air conditioning fault - leaking and soaking floor

    11. Central locking stopped working

    12. Handbrake worked loose, hanging off and will not hold the car. Please help me with my Citroen C8!?
Hi, you are suffering from the effects of Citroen UK and their wonderfull dealer network. They don't have the best reputation for professional competence and to be honest citroens are not good cars.

In terms of the fault it is most likely an intermediate fault with a sensor.

You paid for a repair to be done which obviously wasn't, this work is covered by the Supply of Goods and Services Act (1982) and you have the right to have the work checked, repaired, and/or refunded. Speak to the garage first and allow them to respond but I suspect they'll try and fob you off. Next stop Citizens Advice Bureau, they'll advise you of what steps to take.

Here's a link that will give you some helpfull advice and template letters incase you need to raise a dispute:

    http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/after_y

My advice would be to get your local mechanic to prepare the car to an acceptable standard, get citroen to fix the air flow fault then sell it or trade it in, you have bought a %26quot;lemon%26quot; and you'll be throwing cash at it for the rest of its days if you keep it.

hope this helpsPlease help me with my Citroen C8!?
No French car enjoys a really good reputation in the secondhand trade owing too poor reliability and expensive repairs. Some dealers will not handle certain makes at all. And Citroen in particular are built down to a price. You would be better off with an older something rated for good reliability. in JG Power or Which? magazine.

if you really think the arm need to come off...the nut pushes it onto a spline...its like a post with small grooves and as the nut is tightened it clamps the blade so it won't rotate.which when you think about it is wise..you prise it off with a screwdriver blade from the lower part...carefully...your fingers and the windscreen ar not far away....having said all that....l think they do not need taking off...just undo the wipers from the clips.at the end of the metal arm..usually they snap in place the plastic bit has a little spigot on it which need releasing.using a tiny screwdriver.then swap the blades...and cool off prior to starting...if you get angry with cars..they bite back..lol..read the manual before starting to check you are right....just suppose you are not..eating words is no fun...How do I get a wiper arm off?

Here's a trick when you don't have a tool called a %26quot;puller%26quot; to get tapered splined shafts apart: Put the nut back on, but BE SURE it's backed off several turns. The reason is that we want to protect the threads on the shaft. Now, GENTLY hit the nut squarely with a hammer while pulling the wiper arm toard you. This tapping will usually do the trick - hit the area with a lubricant (WD40 here in the states). Help a useless car lover out boys.?

Well, here is the deal fellas. I am infact a useless car lover. You name a part on the motor, and tell me to fix it, I think you are speaking alien.

Yep, the only thing I know how to do is change the wiper blades, pump in gas, and change the oil.

Here is the main point.. A guy like me, that knows nothing of cars, and lives a meager lifestyle(don't have alot of money to blow). Should I be buying classic cars with power?? - The car I have my heart set on, his the American classic 1996/1997 Chevy Impala SS. You know the big boat with the LT1? I want that beast so bad, and I found one for 8000$ with low mileage. I researched the vehicle and apparently.. this thing was built like cr@p. It breaks down alot, regardless of all the normal tune ups(changing fluids etc. - stop laughing). I don't know if there is any truth to this as it was only a few reviews, and there was 10's of thousands of these built. Anyways.. if this thing is going to break down on me alot, and for the size of the car.. should I even be getting it? I want it bad, but the fact I am so ill-educated on fixing cars and the fact this thing was built like cr@p makes me nervous.

What do you guys think?Help a useless car lover out boys.?

Those are really nice machines with a big following and great resale value. It is one of the few newer reasonably priced cars that won't depreciate if kept up.I doubt that there will be any serious problems with it,especially with low miles. The LT1 is a great engine too.My opinion for what it's worth is go ahead and get it after investigating the history through Carfax and having a trusted mechanical friend take it for a drive.

The wiper control is part of the multifunction switch (wipers, turn signals, dimmer) on the column. There's three or four screws that hold the plastic cover around the switch on below the steering wheel, then two fasteners that hold the switch on, plus you have to get the wiring plug loose. I changed the one in my 96 Explorer a while back, I'd give it a 3.5-4. The biggest problem is there's no damn room in there to get to the fasteners.I have a 2001 ford f150 and need to change the wind shield wiper switch, on a scale of 1-10?
very easy ,you just remove the two plastic covers around steering columnI have a 2001 ford f150 and need to change the wind shield wiper switch, on a scale of 1-10?
if it is located on the dash board it is about a 2 easy but if it is on the steering column more like a 6 but I do know that some of them on the column aren't all that bad ,I use to know fords like the back of my hand but I went to Dodge a few years back but either or if a person has a little bit of experiance he will be ok .

How to check and take care of my car before a long trip?

I am going to Florida from Texas this week (1300 miles) and taking a car which I bought recently. It's a used 2005 Hyundai Elantra with 70,000 miles. The car is generally in a good condition. I have done the following maintenance works last week.

    1) Transmission fluid flush with ValvolineMax life ATF.

    2) Engine oil flush with 5W 30Pennzoil

    3) Brake oil flush

    4) Changed all the 4 tires with Pirelli all season tires

    5) A brand new battery (Duralast fromAuto zone)

    6) Brake check and brake pads are good.

    7) Coolant level is good and looks clean (clean light green liquid and not dirty)

I took the car to a AAA free 38 point inspection. They told that I need to change wipers, the upper and lower hoses as they are soft, and PCV valve. I tried to asked the mechanic in detail, but he was not much interested in explaining and seemed just want to get the work done.

So can anyone provide me some suggestions on anymore checkings/maintenance I should perform before the trip?

Thank youHow to check and take care of my car before a long trip?
It sounds like it should be fine after doing what the AAA people recommended. Just carry some safety things, of course, and make sure your spare tire is properly inflated. Hey, nails happen. I did a trip of this length, twice, in my old 91 Cavalier with 300,000 miles on it, so you should be okay. I miss that car... Anyway, good luck on your trip. I'm sure everything will be fine.

Only thing left to try is a new windshield. Did you try cleaning the inside of the glass? That needs to be done every month for proper vision. What is wrong with my windshield?
Sounds like the old wipers might have glazed it over time. You can try some Rain-x to clean the glass. I do not mean for the beading of water effect but for the fact that the chemicals in rain-x make a great glass cleaner. Other than that drop the dime on a new windshield , they are relatively cheap nowadays. What is wrong with my windshield?
you are screwed might as well buy a new windshield some where around 200.00 or 300.00 this one you can.t fixWhat is wrong with my windshield?
about the only way to fix that is get another windshield.

    2004 pontiac montana wiper timing?

I have this crappy setup. You know the kind of wipers that go away from eachother, instead of just left/right? That's the one!

I changed the wiper transmission, motor, armature on top of motor, and now I can't figure out how to set the timing so the arms behave correctly when they are on intermittent setting, and also when they park.

I have no instruction manual for this, and was hoping someone would either scan the relevant page for me, or just tell me how to do it. I've tried resetting the arm thing on the motor, moving the arms, and also there is this small slot on that arm thing on top of the motor, I have adjusted this setting as well, but arghh, I just can't get it right. Please help, this has been driving me nutz!2004 pontiac montana wiper timing?
Take the wiper arms off both transmissions stubs. Turn the wiper motor on for a couple of cycles.Turn the wipers off. Replace the arms..There should be a little casting mark in the windshield for location. If the arms do not return to the proper location after a trial run.. the 'small slot on that arm thing(linkage) on top of the motor' will make the fine adjustment.

Does my car need new wiper blades?

I've had my car 2 and a half years now and never changed my wiper blades (or really thought about my wipers at all). Recently, I've noticed when I switch my wipers on (usually more noticeable in a light drizzle) that instead of clearing the water off completely like normal, I'm left with smearyness. It's not dirt smears... but more of a watermark... a wet watermark. Sorry, probably not making much sense! But kinda like on a shower door after you've just been in... the way the water sometimes 'puddles' on a vertical surface.

I'm assuming this means I need new wiper blades as I can't think what else it can be. I understand you can buy these from Halfords and are apparently easy to fit (although once saw quite a knowledgeable looking man ask for assistance in halfords to fit his...) - could some one let me know how I'm meant to go about changing them? Or how I can tell if they need changing... or is the fact that they're not actually wiping enough....?!

FYI: it's a citroen c3 and I'm pretty car-dumb...!Does my car need new wiper blades?

it would be a good thing to change them anyway - hubby is an auto tech - says you can also try an alcohol wipe and run it along the blades - this will take off any oily stuff thrown up form the roads. if not better - than buy new ones. if you hae an autozone - they might put them on for you - or stand there and talk you thru it. good luck -Does my car need new wiper blades?
    1) Clean the blades like previous people said.

    2) Clean the windshield, and apply a water repellent treatment to the glass. Best known product is rainx, but there are plenty of products now and they all should generally work well.

    3) Replace the blades if you are still not happy.

I cannot stress how much a water repellent treatment will help your wet driving vision.Does my car need new wiper blades?
Well, that I know of, if your wipers are leaving smears across the windscreen then it seems that you have a build up of gunk on your wipers. Your best bet before buying new wiper blades is to place vinegar on a clean cloth and wipe down the blade, this should do the trick if not then consider buying new blades

Hope this HelpsDoes my car need new wiper blades?
You only need new blades if they are starting to split at the ends. What you describe is grease in the form of traffic film. It is tenacious stuff. You need to go over the windscreen with a very strong solution of washing up liquid. About a 50:50 mix with warm water. Also wipe the blades themselves with the solution. If you do a thorough job the screen should wipe clean with no smearing. Add a good windscreen wash detergent to the washer container to keep it ok.

Incidentally, I had problems with smearing due to a rubbish wash additive. I changed it to Wickes own make and it was fine. Carplan is another good make.Does my car need new wiper blades?
Yes you do... and it's a very common problem. Just ask the person that sells the new wiper blades to help you through your first time, I'm sure they would be glad to help.Does my car need new wiper blades?
Replace your windshield wiper blades. Change them once a year or sooner. Go to AutoZone, Pep Boys, or any other auto mechanics store and buy them for about $5.00 a piece. They are not expensive and they clip in so any person, mechanically inclined or not, can replace them.Does my car need new wiper blades?
Its great that your car went 2 and a half years without changing your wiper blades. It does sound like you need to change them, but only if the water streaks bother you lots. I klnow they would bother me.

Department stores like Wal-Mart and Canadian Tire (and Halford's?) usually have a whole aisle dedicated to wiper blades. There are many makes, models and styles for each car. But don't get discouraged:

For your car there will be about 3 to 5 different blades depending on performance. These blades will also fit other citroen cars.

In the aisle, there's usually a book listing your make and model. If you look up %26quot;Citroen%26quot; then 20XX%26quot; then %26quot;C3%26quot; you will get a listing of those 3 to 5 wiper blades. You'll have to remember the product codes, because that's how they're sorted in the aisle.

If you're confused yet, you can certainly ask a sales associate for assistance.

Make sure both blades are included. Sometimes you'll have to buy the right and left seperately.

You can also buy just the blades or whole wipers. I like buying wipers, they are easier to install.

Check your car's owner's manual. It should have instructions on changing the wiper blades. If not, have at her. The wipers are attached with some sort of metal clip. They are fastened using friction and downward presure on the window.

Bend the wiper blade arm upwards, it should pop up 90 degrees from the window for you to change it. Detach the old one, and attach the new one. Use gloves if your delicate, they sometimes need some elbow grease.

    There you have it!

though, you might just want to avoid this whole ordeal and find some wiper blade silicone. It will be in the wiper aisle, kind of an oil that will make the blades supple again. just apply the oil with a cloth or your fingers to the blade. But for the cost of that stuff, you could get brand spanking new wiper blades.

I don't know how popular Citroen's are in Britain - there's none in Canada. You may need to go to the dealership to get your blades.Does my car need new wiper blades?
the rubber on the wipers, take a alcohol pad and clean the rubber.Does my car need new wiper blades?

Make sure that the wiper arms are putting enough pressure on the windscreen..My cars windscreen is all smudgey.?
Thoroughly clean the windscreen. The problem could be a coating of oil, grease, and other fluids thrown from the road up by the tires of other cars.

  • How do I Change Hyundai Santa Fe Wiper Blades?

I just bought some more blades for my 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe from Canadian Tire. I can't seem to figure out how to get the old ones off and put the new ones on. Has anyone done this before who knows how the mechanism works? I've been out in the cold working on it twice for about half an hour each time and have had no luck at all figuring it out.How do I Change Hyundai Santa Fe Wiper Blades?
the hyundai is a good car despite what the other person has said. to get the wiper blades off there are a couple of clips on the wiper arms. push the clip in and move the wiper arm out. then depending on how the blade is secured it should just pull out.How do I Change Hyundai Santa Fe Wiper Blades?
dont take this personal . but my recomendation is to take the blades back and buy a different car.honday is korea's way of taken revenge on the U.S. for the korean war. they are poorly designed and cheaply made. you get what you pay for. the only thing worse than a hyunday is a yugo.and those arent allowed to be imported to U.S. anymore .due to the fact that most of them caught on fire and burned up the people inside them....E

Hey I have a 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser and the front wipers wont turn off! I can change the speed but thats it?

I can change the speed but when i try to turned them off they keep on on the first speed. Do you guys know how I can fix this or how i cant turn them off until I can get it checked out by the warranty it's far from where I live so I need to turn them off or fix them on my own! thanksHey I have a 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser and the front wipers wont turn off! I can change the speed but thats it?
you can take the fuse out until you go to the dealer to get it fixed, this will cut the power to them and they will stop

in the fuse box they can be labeled as WW motor, windsheld wiper, or something like that, but you need to find the fuse and take it outHey I have a 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser and the front wipers wont turn off! I can change the speed but thats it?
you should have your drivers manual, read up in it about the wiper stick operation,

it has many positions, down for intermittent, up for other operations, and the end might rotate,

IF something is messing with it being able to be put in the off position then you are looking at messing with the steering column, AND the air bag is right there in the way, Best maybe to seek a close dealership during the day.Hey I have a 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser and the front wipers wont turn off! I can change the speed but thats it?
Locate the fuse box, disconnect the fuse that goes to the wipers. Some cars have multiple fuse boxes. But most likely it would be inside the car. Try looking around the driver side. Could be near the floor where the pedals are or on the dashboard side as you open the door.Hey I have a 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser and the front wipers wont turn off! I can change the speed but thats it?
If it won't turn off in any position then the switch is probably bad. You can replace it yourself and if you are worried about setting off the air bag just unhook the ground on the battery before starting to work on it. Without ground nothing is going to work. For now you can find the fuse for the wipers and take it out, that will shut them off until you can get a switch.

I have a 1995 Ford Thunderbird. i havent had it very long and now its time to change the windershield wipers. the problem is, i think they are stuck. there is a little bar sticking out im pretty sure you just push it and it supposed to come off. well, its not. there isnt any hook on it either so it cant be that. trust me i looked. can anyone give me some tips on how to get them off. please help me out cause its been raining alot and i cant drive anywhere now.How do i remove the windshield wipers from my Ford thunderbird?
im guessing that the wipers you are trying to take off are the ones that look like they have a spring in them holding it to the wiper arm. if i am right then the way i change them is take a small flat head screw driver and pry the end of the springs towards the openingand they will fall in releasing the tension holding the wipers on. slide them off and put the new blades onHow do i remove the windshield wipers from my Ford thunderbird?

Try looking for a tab to press then tap it out. If it is hinged at the centre of the wiper, try bending it all the way back and the press the pin out.
